How does the scan process work?

That’s the easy part! You walk across a state-of-the-art Gait Plate striking it once with right foot and once with the left, followed by 30 second stand with your feet shoulder width apart. That is it! Afterwards Dr. Nelya Lobkova will walk you through the various orthotic options based on your activity and shoe type. Once your selection is made your orthotics are custom made to order.

Do I need an AFO (Ankle Foot Orthosis)?

For certain conditions custom orthotic inserts are not enough and an Ankle Foot Orthosis or AFO device is necessary. An AFO is a custom-made device that provides stability and support to the foot and ankle. An AFO supports and strengthens weakened tendons and ligaments in the foot and misaligned joints such as the subtalar and ankle joints.

AFO’s are used to treat many conditions that cause tendon and ligament weakness, such as congenital neuromuscular disorders including Multiple Sclerosis, acquired conditions like PTTD (Posterior tibial tendon dysfunction) and Drop Foot.

Custom-made AFO’s made by Step Up Footcare are scanned using an iPAD with tech-savvy 3D scanning software that recreates an exact dynamic mold of the lower extremity. The result is a high quality, sleek and functional device providing adequate support without compromising on style.
